| A few years ago the Mundaring Shire and ratepayers
undertook many years of austerity to reduce high debt levels and to become debt free. In July 2007 debt levels were $167,561
with repayments of $20,882 p.a. comprising .14% of income derived from rates. In June 2008 that amount had increased by
3300% to $ 5,518,544 with repayments of $172,696 per half year (2.77% of rates). The increase was due to a 20 year loan
started 31 January 2008 to fund the Civic Facility Redevelopment. These figures are sourced from the 2007/08 Mundaring
Shire Annual Report (see pages 65 (Borrowings) and 54 (Revenue)). If you do not consider this level of debt appropriate,
