A few years ago the Mundaring Shire and ratepayers undertook many years of austerity to reduce high debt levels and to become debt free. In July 2007 debt levels were $167,561 with repayments of $20,882 p.a. comprising .14% of income derived from rates. In June 2008 that amount had increased by 3300% to $ 5,518,544 with repayments of $172,696 per half year (2.77% of rates). The increase was due to a 20 year loan started 31 January 2008 to fund the Civic Facility Redevelopment. These figures are sourced from the 2007/08 Mundaring Shire Annual Report (see pages 65 (Borrowings) and 54 (Revenue)). If you do not consider this level of debt appropriate, what level is appropriate?
There are two libraries in the Mundaring Shire one at Mundaring and one at Greenmount. Have you any suggestions on how they could be improved?
